Women faculty members are not only more likely than men to hold appointments in lower-paying academic ranks and types of institutions, but are also paid less than men within the same academic ranks and institutions, on average. Researchers have shined light on these and other gender inequities for years, but progress has been slow for women faculty, particularly women faculty of color.
