FAQs about your TIAA accounts

  1. Go to tiaa.org.
  2. Select REGISTER located at the very top right of the page.
  3. Follow the onscreen step-by-step instructions to obtain a user ID and password.

IMPORTANT! There's one final step to complete your registration. At the bottom of the "Welcome" page, select Log in. For security reasons, this one time only, you'll be asked a few questions to verify your identity.
Please note that you'll need your Social Security number to complete your registration.

Once you've completed the identity verification steps, you're all set to manage your TIAA accounts online.

Going forward, just log into your account at tiaa.org.

Your contract number is either your TIAA number, your CREF number or your TIAA Mutual Fund Account number. These can be found in two places: your enrollment or mutual fund account confirmation documents or your quarterly statements.

To review the choices you made for your Investments, Contributions and Transactions, Log in to your accountOpens in a new window. Under My Accounts section,

Select the account name or View account details from the Actions dropdown menu to go to the account details pages.

Log in to your accountOpens in a new window. Under My Account, look for the Quick Links section. Click on the Complete Documents link.

Log in to your accountOpens in a new window. Under Portfolio Summary section, select the Investments tab to track the change since the last quarter. To see more history, look for your Personal Rate of Return and click "View Details". A new page with interactive charts provides eight (8) quarters of history for balances and personal rate of return.

Log in to your accountOpens in a new window. Under My Account, click the "+" icon next to the account name to view the total vested balance. Click on "View Employer Rules" to see more details, including your employer's vesting rules.

Log in to your accountOpens in a new window. Under My Account, look for the Retirement Plans & IRAs section. Then select Status of loans/withdrawals.

Log in to your accountOpens in a new window. Under Support look in the right column and select Enroll in an Employer's Plan to get started.

Select Life Insurance to see your account information.

Please note: If your insurance is owned by a trust, you cannot view your policy online. Call 800-223-1200 for information.

Two ways to get a better answer

Log in to your accountOpens in a new window. Under My To-Dos, select the applicable enrollment that you would like to complete.

Yes. To see the change in balance for a specific account, Log in to your account, click the account name then choose the Change in Balance tab.

Your balance includes all of your accounts except these:

- TIAA Direct® bank accounts
- Trust accounts at TIAA Trust Company, FSB
- Trusts you don't own (you might be a co-trustee or executor, for example)
- Cash value of life insurance policies

  2. Select the MY ACCOUNT menu, then select Manage investments. On that page, select Change allocation of contributions.
  3. Follow the step-by-step instructions to make your changes.
