Offering a QDIA in your plan provides Pension Protection Act (PPA) fiduciary safeguards that reduce your risk when making contributions on behalf of employees who don’t furnish affirmative or complete investment instructions. Plan sponsors find it particularly valuable if they provide an automatic enrollment or default enrollment feature within the plan. Lifecycle (also known as target date) funds, balanced funds (combination of fixed-income and equity investments) and professionally managed accounts are valid QDIAs.
