What’s a mutual fund?

It’s a collection of professionally selected stocks, bonds, cash or other types of investments managed together in one fund.
Here are some common investment categories:

Equity (stocks)

Equity funds invest in the shares of companies, and are generally more risky than other investments.

Fixed income (bonds)

Fixed income funds invest in government or corporate bonds – or debt- and are generally more conservative than equities.

International funds invest in the stocks and bonds of non-U.S. companies. Some focus on developed markets, others on emerging markets.

As the name implies, multi-asset funds invest in a combination of other investment categories.

A range of funds for every goal

Investing in mutual funds can help you save and grow your money for the things that are important to you. Consider when you will need the money and how much risk you’re comfortable with.

What are you saving for?

A rainy day

Emergencies happen when you least expect them. Lower risk mutual funds, for shorter time horizons, can help you protect your money and make sure it’s there when you need it.

The retirement you want—when you want it

An assortment of mutual funds, with various risk levels, can help you invest for the long term in your employer’s retirement plan, an IRA, or a brokerage account. So you can retire on your terms.

A new home

Growing family? Thinking about a bigger place? Whatever your plans, mutual funds can help you invest for your next home.
