“Green Team” will promote environmentally-conscious behavior both inside and outside of TIAA-CREF
New York, April 22, 2015 — Celebrating Earth Day’s 45th anniversary, TIAA-CREF today launched a company-wide “Green Team” and announced that it will work with the Arbor Day Foundation to have a tree planted in honor of every TIAA-CREF employee.
The “Green Team” will educate employees on the environmental effects of everyday workplace operations and behavior, ask employees to align their own behavior in an effort to go “green,” and lead community-based employee volunteer events throughout the year that improve the environment. TIAA-CREF’s work with the Arbor Day Foundation will result in more than 10,000 trees planted in Pike National Forest.
The “Green Team” will kick off its activities with Earth Day community service opportunities in its three largest employee populations – Charlotte, N.C., Denver, Co., and New York.
"The ‘Green Team’ is a great initiative to capture and promote the positive impact that TIAA-CREF has not only for our participants, but for our local communities,” said Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., president and CEO, TIAA-CREF. “Giving back is part of our DNA. For nearly 100 years, TIAA-CREF has been driven by our special mission to make a difference for those who make a difference in the world. The establishment of the ‘Green Team’ will provide another way for our employees to help live and breathe that mission.”
TIAA-CREF’s leadership in building sustainability practices into our management of client assets has been nationally recognized and the establishment of a company “Green Team” is the first step to increase employee engagement and inspire them to take a more sustainable path.
