Since 2018, TIAA has recognized the work of its internal leaders through an annual Inclusive Leadership Award. Nominations came from associates across the company and included leaders from a wide range of business units.
This year, TIAA extended that recognition to clients who exemplified exceptional leadership in inclusion, diversity, and equity practices within their own organizations.
“Of the many inclusive practices employed by our client institutions, it was hard to narrow down and pick just one winner,” said Laura Turner, TIAA Head of Corporate Social Responsibility. “In the end, the panel selected Boston Medical Center the 2022 winner and first client recipient because of their relentless pursuit of inclusion in the retirement outcomes of their employees.”
A panel of judges from across the organization reviewed nominations from around the company. They measured the inclusion, diversity, and equity ethos of each organization, as well as feasibility, sustainability, and overall impact of programs.
In the end, Boston Medical Center’s implementation of “Closing the Wealth Gap with the Plan Outcome Assessment” scored highest and landed the community hospital the first TIAA Client Inclusive Leadership Award. The program has since been shared as a model for other institutions to help associates at risk of a savings and retirement gap, most heavily impacting women and persons of color.
