Be the Change Scholarship Named Winner of Ragan’s CSR & Diversity Awards

The TIAA Bank Be the Change Scholarship has been named a winner of Ragan PR Daily’s  Corporate Social Responsibility & Diversity awards. The company’s scholarship program won  in the Education or Scholarship Program category. TIAA Bank launched its Be the Change program to help fight racial injustice by providing scholarship opportunities to students and giving them a space to use their voices.

“TIAA’s Be the Change platform has been a catalyst for tough conversations and effective action to combat injustice,” said Corie Pauling, Chief Inclusion, TIAA Diversity & Equity Officer. “We’re proud to partner with schools in our communities to encourage, inspire and empower the next generation of difference makers.”

Be the Change was introduced in 2020 by TIAA Bank’s parent company, TIAA, as an effort to combat racial injustice. The program was designed to educate about present day inequity and inequality and encourage people to come forward with ideas on how to enact real change for social justice, equity, inclusion and diversity.

Through this program, high school seniors in the Jacksonville, Florida area had the opportunity to win one of four $5,000 college scholarships. Students from select schools wrote a 300-500 word essay answering the following questions: Where do you see racial injustice in your community? How can the City of Jacksonville fight racial injustice in this area, and what part can you play to help make a difference?

Ragan’s CSR & Diversity Awards were created to recognize communities that have had a positive impact on society, making the world a safer, healthier, more equitable and sustainable place for us all.
