What lessons from your experience before TIAA have helped you now?
Before coming to TIAA in 2008, I spent 18 years in finance and banking, which were invaluable in shaping my process and investment philosophy. Investing is a process of lifetime learning, which is the aspect I most enjoy about the job.
What part does innovation play in your current role?
Technology has dramatically changed the investment process. With the Internet, everyone in the industry now has to sift through an enormous amount of information from hundreds of sources. Experience and ability to accurately process that information is of utmost importance in the current environment.
What is something about yourself that your colleagues would be surprised to learn?
I have a daughter with special needs who is 12 years old. She has taught us that focusing on effort and being the best person that you can possibly be is the most important aspect of any person's life.
What does putting the client first mean to you in your current role?
Making prudent investment decisions and taking calculated risks that help lead to the best possible investment returns.
