The TIAA Institute hosted a symposium exploring the critical intersections of health and wealth.
Health and wealth are two sides of the same coin. During this "Decade of Healthy Ageing"—as declared by the United Nations—this symposium, titled Living Well, Aging Well: Navigating the Longevity Equation, brought together researchers, practitioners, and leaders from institutions including Stanford University, the University of Michigan, the World Economic Forum, the Milken Institute, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Gerontological Society of America. Welcomed by Surya Kolluri, head of the TIAA Institute, speakers shared insights on demographic shifts, including increased longevity and widening income gaps, and explored how breaking down silos between the health and finance sectors can support more equitable, healthy, and financially secure aging.
Sessions covered a range of timely topics, including new research on measuring "longevity fitness" through a proposed Unit of Health℠, key findings from the University of Michigan's National Poll on Healthy Aging, the World Economic Forum's business case for linking health and wealth, the Milken Institute's longevity equation framework, the growing financial burden of family caregiving, and how artificial intelligence is reshaping longevity across finance, health, and caregiving. The event also marked the inaugural presentation of the TIAA Institute Louise Whitfield Carnegie Award for Leadership Excellence in Healthcare.
