Juan Carlos was a public school teacher prior to working at TIAA. He uses his background to advise clients, and assist them with any questions they may have about their account or retirement. He considers each meeting an opportunity to help people plan for tomorrow.
How has your career progressed and evolved since you joined TIAA?
I started in our Administrative Telephone System, which was a non-licensed role that only handled customer service inquiries. After a year, the organization sponsored my Series 6 and 63 and Life and Health Annuity licenses in Colorado. After working in our Enrollment department, I moved to our Advice department, where I attained my Series 7. I have been fortunate to transfer that knowledge and experience into my existing role in the Field Consulting Group.
What does “giving back” mean to you?
I believe we have a responsibility to give back to others, particularly those in need. We do what we can, when we can. Being sensitive to others’ needs is part of who we are.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be the Right Fielder for my favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
