TIAA Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Ronald L. Thompson Receives the National Association of Corporate Directors' Lifetime Achievement Award

NEW YORK, AUGUST 25, 2020 – TIAA, a leading financial services provider, announced Dr. Ronald L. Thompson, Chairman of the TIAA Board of Trustees, as the recipient of the National Association of Corporate Directors' (NACD) B. Kenneth West Lifetime Achievement AwardOpens in a new window.

The NACDOpens in a new window is a leading authority on boardroom practices and has been setting the standard for responsible board leadership for more than 40 years. The B. Kenneth West Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to a director who demonstrates exceptional achievements throughout their board career – including dedication to the improvement of corporate governance practices – and excellent leadership.

Dr. Thompson, recognized for his integrity, confidence, performance, and leadership, has served on the TIAA board since 1995, first in the capacity as an independent trustee and, since 2008, as independent chair. During this time, he has supported the company's strategic evolution from a single-line retirement company to a uniquely diversified Fortune 500 institution.

In addition to his role on the TIAA Board, Dr. Thompson has been the Senior Non- Executive Director of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles since 2014; he was a director of Chrysler Group LLC from 2009 to 2014 and Lead Director from 2011 to 2014. He also has been a member of the advisory board of Plymouth Ventures Partnership II since 2010. Dr. Thompson is a director of the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation and a trustee of Washington University in St. Louis. He earned a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
