On Veterans Day, we pause to reflect on the sacrifice that millions of our nation’s heroes have made to protect our way of life and the freedoms that we Americans hold dear. Let this serve as a reminder of the important things that unite us across our country, rather than divide us. The men and women who are serving today, and those who have served throughout our nation’s history, deserve our deepest respect and gratitude -- not only on Veterans Day but throughout the year.
Since its founding in 1918, TIAA-CREF has been privileged to count many veterans among its employees, participants and board members. That’s not surprising given our organization’s values and our mission of serving those who serve others. Indeed, many of our clients – people working on campuses, in hospitals, research facilities and other institutions – have also proudly served in our nation’s military.
TIAA-CREF has enormous respect for military service and recognizes the valuable skills, knowledge and leadership abilities that veterans bring to the workplace. As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, our employee-run Military and Veterans Employee Resource Group provides recognition, development and networking opportunities to employees with military experience, supports their families, and serves the overall veteran community. We are also proud to be a member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of more than 200 companies that have already exceeded the group’s original goal by collectively hiring more than 260,000 veterans – and counting! Through our new relationship with the American Corporate Partners (ACP) Veteran Mentoring program, we are also focused on coaching veterans to succeed in civilian roles.
To all those who have answered the nation’s call to service, thank you for your extraordinary commitment, your unwavering dedication to protecting our country, and the many sacrifices you have made.
