TIAA-CREF Mourns the Loss of Father Theodore M. Hesburgh

NEW YORK, February 27, 2015 — Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., president and CEO of TIAA-CREF released the following statement on the passing of Reverend Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame.
"The TIAA-CREF family joins the nation's higher education community in mourning the loss of Reverend Theodore Hesburgh. Father Hesburgh's legacy as one of the most influential figures in higher education as well as his commitment to humanitarianism will continue to serve as an inspiration to us all.
"For 28 years, we were privileged to have Father Hesburgh serve as a member of the TIAA and CREF Boards of Overseers. We will continue to honor Father Hesburgh's significant contributions to higher education through the TIAA-CREF Theodore M. Hesburgh Award for Leadership Excellence, given annually to university presidents who embody his spirit and his dedication to the betterment of higher education.
