Mike Cowell is Chief Auditor, responsible for providing objective, independent audit, advisory and investigative services across all TIAA legal entities and businesses.
Mike joined TIAA in 2007 and assumed the role of Chief Auditor in 2008. He reports directly to the Audit Committee of the TIAA Board of Trustees and administratively to the TIAA Chief Executive Officer. He leads the global Internal Audit Services team, providing the vision, strategy and support for day-to-day operations of the organization. With more than 24 years of financial services experience, Mike was previously a Senior Manager with Ernst & Young and a Senior Auditor with PwC.
Mike is a constant supporter of inclusion, diversity and equity initiatives across the company, as well as being a recognized culture champion and people leader.
An active volunteer with The Institute of Internal Auditors, Mike previously served on the Global and North American Boards of Directors. He is an Executive Committee member of the Conference Board’s Council of Chief Audit Executives. Passionate about engaging and serving the community, Mike serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Dedication to Community (D2C), Eliminate the Digital Divide, and previously Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Science and Information Technology from Virginia Tech.
